How Much Does a website Cost?

Perhaps the most frequently asked question of web designers, it is usually the hardest to answer. Determining the cost of a website has many factors such as number of pages, number of graphics, complexity, and if it is optimized. A basic website that consists of three pages will obviously cost less than a 10-page optimized site with Flash. Submission to Search Engines

Once your site is up and running, it is automatically indexed by all major search engines; there is no need to submit to the major players such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN. However, if there was one place that you need to manually submit your site to, it would be the Open Directory Project (DMOZ) website. 

"The Open Directory Project is the largest, most comprehensive human-edited directory of the Web. It is constructed and maintained by a vast, global community of volunteer editors. The Open Directory powers the core directory services for the Web's largest and most popular search engines and portals, including Netscape Search, AOL Search, Google, Lycos, HotBot, DirectHit, and hundreds of others."

Submitting your site to this database is a MUST but be aware that it may take a long time, sometimes months, for it to show up since it is manually updated by volunteers.

Google Local is another MUST that you should submit your site to, especially if your clientele are local residents and other businesses.

There is no way to guarantee that your site will be placed high within search rankings and please be wary of firms that promise "Top 10" or "guaranteed" results. The key to high rankings are, and will always be, good and relevant content, incoming links, organic keywords throughout the content, and having a webmaster who understands proper and ethical search engine optimization techniques.
